چکیده

Sickle cell disease is the most common cause of stroke in childhood, both ischaemic and haemorrhagic, it also affects adults with condition. Without any screening or preventative treatment, incidence appears to fall within range 0.5 0.9 per 100 patient years observation. Newborn Penicillin prophylaxis vaccination leading reduced bacterial infection may have incidence, alongside increasing hydroxyurea prescription. Transcranial Doppler prophylactic chronic transfusion for at least an initial year has by up 10-fold children time averaged mean maximum velocity >200 cm/s. Hydroxyurea reduce first a similar extent same group but optimal dose remains controversial. The prevention haemorrhagic all ages not yet received degree attention. Although there are fewer studies, silent cerebral infarction on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), other neurological conditions, including headache, epilepsy cognitive dysfunction, more prevalent sickle compared age matched controls. Clinical, neuropsychological quantitative MRI prove useful understanding epidemiology aetiology.
